First Generation Descendants of Peter Fidler Andrew Fidler ANDREW FIDLER (1806-1846) Andrew FIDLER was born 1806 at Cumberland House, Saskatchewan the sixth child of Mary MACKAGONNE, a Cree woman, and HBC Surveyor, Peter FIDLER from Bolsover, England. The FIDLER family was at Brandon House from 1812-19; Dauphin House from 1819-22. Andrew’s father, Peter, died at Dauphin House in December of 1822, when Andrew was 16 years old. His Cree mother, Mary, moved the family to the Kildonan area (north Winnipeg). Ann HALLETT was born May 31, 1809 at Ft Vermillion (located at junction of the North Saskatchewan River and Vermillion River in Eastern AB), daughter of Henry HALLETT & Catherine TENANSE (a mixed-blood). Andrew was baptized on Oct 30, 1825 at St John’s Anglican Church and married there on Nov 6, 1828 to Ann HALLETT. Four of Henry HALLETT’s children were married there that day by Rev William COCHRANE: 1) Nancy HALLETT & Tom FIDLER (Andrew’s eldest brother); 2) Ann HALLETT & Andrew FIDLER; 3) Henry HALLETT married Catherine PARENTAU); 4) Andrew’s brother (Alban) married Ann’s sister Margaret HALLETT & Alban FIDLER. Soon after they were married Andrew & Ann moved to St James, where their first child (Caroline) was born in 1830. Caroline was baptised at St John’s on March 14 that year. Andrew was recorded in Census 1831 on Lots 57-58 in Red River. With him were his brothers (Clement, age 17) and Peter (age 11). By 1841 five more children were born (Cornelius, Cleophas, Charlotte, Chloe and Catherine) In 1843 son Cyrus was born (baptized Sep 17, 1843 at St John’s). Daughter Caroline died that year (buried on Dec 1, 1843 at St John’s). She was only 13 years old. Around 1844 Andrew was working for the Municipality of Assiniboia (he built a couple of bridges for them). Their last/youngest child was Ann, born Sep 11, 1845. Andrew died at the age of 40 on Sep 9, 1846. He was buried in St James. In 1853 son Cornelius married Jane BIRSTON, daughter of Angelique & William BIRSTON. In 1856 daughter Chloe died at the age of 18. In 1856 daughter Charlotte married William COOK. They had one child before William OOOK died in 1859. Charlotte re-married in 1861 to Walter BOURKE, son of Nancy CAMPBELL & John Palmer BOURKE. In 1865 daughter Ann married Elliott ARMSTRONG Census 1881, Assiniboia (St James): Widow Nancy (age 70) living with her grandson Joseph Jeremiah COOK (son of her daughter Charlotte & William COOK b-1835) and his wife Jane (nee ISBISTER).
