ANDREW FIDLER (1806-1846)

              Andrew  FIDLER was born on Nov  29, 1806 at Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, son of Mary MACKAGONNE, a Cree woman, and HBC  Surveyor, Peter FIDLER (1769-1822) from Bolsover, England.

            From 1812-19 the FIDLER family was at  Brandon House; Dauphin House from 1819-22. Andrew’s father, Peter, died  at Dauphin House in December of 1822, when Andrew was 16 years old. His  Cree mother, Mary, moved the family to the Kildonan area (north Winnipeg). On Oct 30, 1825 he was baptized at St John’s. 
              
            Marriage to Ann HALLETT

            On Nov 6, 1828 Andrew married at St Johns to Ann HALLETT, daughter of Catherine TENANSE  & Henry HALLET  (1773-1844) ** MORE ABOUT  HENRY HALLETT 
                 
                After their  marriage Ann & Andrew moved to St James where their fist child, Caroline,  was born on Mar 14, 1830. In the Census  of 1831: Andrew’s brothers, Clement FIDLER (age 17) and Peter FIDLER  (age 11) were living with them. In 1843 Daughter  Caroline died at the young age of 13.  
              
            Around 1844 Andrew is credited as building a  couple of bridges for the Municipality   of Assiniboia (St James). 
              
            By 1845 there were seven surviving children in the  family, all born in St James: Cornelius (age 13), Cleophas (age 10), Charlotte (age 9), Chloe (age 8), Catherine (age 4), Cyrus (age 2) and baby Ann. 
              
            On Sep 9, 1846 Andrew FIDLER died at the  age of 40. He was buried St James. 
              
            In 1853 son  Cornelius married at St Johns to  Jane BIRSTON, daughter of Angelique MARCHAND dit BERCIER and William BIRSTON (1802-1835).   
              
            In 1856 daughter Chloe died at  the age of 18. That same year, daughter Charlotte married in St  James to William COOK, son of Ellen SPENCE & Jeremiah COOK (b-1804). ** MORE ABOUT JEREMIAH COOK 
            They had  one child before William died in 1859 at the age of 24. In 1861 Charlotte re-married to Walter BOURKE, son of Nancy CAMPBELL  & John Palmer BOURKE (1791-1851). 
              
            In 1861 son Cleophas died at the  age of 26. That same year, daughter Catherine married Henry ELSE (1840-1914) who was born in England. 
              
            In 1865 son Cyrus married Elizabeth COX, daughter  of Nancy TAYLOR & John COX (1796-1872). 
              
            In 1867 daughter Ann married  Elliot ARMSTRONG (1843-1916) from Ireland. 
              
            In 1881 Widow Ann FIDLER (age 70) was living  in St James with her grandson, Joseph Jeremiah COOK b-1856 (son of daughter  Charlotte & William COOK b-1835) and his wife Jane (nee ISBISTER).  
              
            On Mar 7, 1889 Widow Ann FIDLER died in St James.
