This is assist our distant cousin Crystal who is Archie's Great-great granddaughter. She would like to know more about her family ties
Archibald "Archie" CROMARTIE was born Aug 16, 1874 in St Andrews Parish (MB), son of Mary Anne HOURIE & William Edward CROMARTIE (1841-1926). This CROMARTIE family moved from Manitoba to Prince Albert (SK), probably around the late 1870's.
Around 1890 Archie married Margaret Ann HARPER, daughter of Jane Mary THOMAS & William HARPER (b-1849)
Google searches come up with several references to at Phillip Archibald CROMARTIE who married Mar 16, 1898 to a Mary Ann ROBERTSON b-1874. This information is puzzling. I cannot find any more specific documented information to support this. If anyone can clear this up, please enlighten us. When son Hilliard enlisted in 1915 he stated his next of kin as Mrs Maggie (Margaret) CROMARTY of Prince Albert. Census 1901 also refers to Archie’s wife as Margaret A.
Census 1901 records Margaret & Archie in Birch Hills (SK) with their children Frances (age 10) and Halyard (age 1). Birch Hills is located SE of Prince Albert, west of Brancepath.
Around 1909 Archie's brother (Peter Dominic CROMARTIE) married Margaret's sister (Frances Jane HARPER)
Archie died on Feb 1, 1910 at Birch Hills, and the census of 1911 records Widow Margaret CROMARTIE (age 37) and son Hilliard (age 12) with her parents (Jane Mary & William HARPER) in Prince Albert.
In 1915 when son Hilliard enlisted for World War I he stated his next of kin as his mother, Mrs Maggie CROMARTY of 225-14th Street, East Prince Albert.
On Nov 3, 1923 Hilliard married Violet FIDLER. Violet was born in 1902, daughter of Elizabeth Pruden ISBISTER & John James "Honest John" FIDLER (1878-1941), son of Sarah Ann SWAIN & James Edward "Jamsie" FIDLER (1853-1953), son of Nancy Anne BREMNER & Edward FIDLER (1826-1919), son of Anne SANDERSON & Charles FIDLER (1798-1886), son of Mary MACKAGONNE & PETER FIDLER OF BOLSOVER (1769-1822)
One of Hilliard's children was Edna CROMARTIE who was Crystal's grandmother.
