Thomas Fidlers baptism in Orkney

Post by kelfid » Sat Jul 19, 2008 5:47 pm

:? Hi family members and friends .My name is Kelly Fiddler i am a decendent of Peter Fidlers 3rd son George .I read the story about Thomas Fidlers baptisim in Orkley Scotland. While searching the net under James Fidler i came across a list of Fidlers baptised in Stomness ,Orkley Scotland . I found a Tomas Fidlar with an A baptised on October 12 1808, his parents name were Peter Fidlar and his mother was Methwinan fidlar with an A. There was no Thomas Fidler baptised in Orkley on that day.
I found this site by googling James Fidler scroll down to bottom,go in colum #3 go in scroll down you will see a site called Fiddlers baptised in Stommness,Orkely Scotland.

Hello, Kelly: My name is Barry Durie. I posted a reply to this Thomas Fidler baptism a few years ago. I have always said that Peter Fidler never took his oldest son Thomas back to the Orkneys to be baptized. Peter only returned to England (alone) once in his life, around 1812, to build his mother a house. I don't care what Heather Hallett says. Thanks for the confirmation. Regards to all the Fidler cousins. Barry Durie. Chilliwack.

Hello Barry, nice to see you are still interested in all this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I said in my narrative that Tom went to England, not Peter, suggesting that Tom may have been sent there with someone else to be schooled. It would be nice if Heather would come on here and offer us an explanation.
