Fidler/Simpson Connection

Post by jcorrigan » Tue Apr 05, 2011 3:20 pm

I just discovered this site, and I am very impressed. I am a great-great granddaughter of Marguerite (Margaret) Taylor who married Amable Hogue. Before that, she had been the country wife of Sir George Simpson. Margaret's son John McKenzie Simpson married Peter Fidler's granddaughter Amelia. Interestingly, Margaret's brother George Simpson was also a surveyor and worked with Peter's maps.
On the website of the Manitoba Association of Land Surveyors( http://www.amls.ca/site/earlymapping?nav=04) we find this:
"In 1835, George Taylor became the surveyor to the settlement and during his tenure he resurveyed all existing, as well as 1,542 additional lots, the plans for which became the basis of the Hudson's Bay Company Land Grants in the settlement."
Don't you just love all the connections you find when you research your roots?

Welcome to the Forum Jackie

Are you a descendant of Amable HOGUE or of John McKenzie SIMPSON?

Can you tell us more about your own lineage?
