I am a descendant of John Tait (mentioned in the Hallett section of your site). The site says that John was murdered under mysterious circumstances. I am curious what the source of that information is. His grand daughter said that the family legend was that he left Red River in the fall of 1870 to tend his oxen at Pigeon Lake and never came back. His body was found in 1871. If there had been any evidence of a murder, surely it would have been reported in the press at that time.
