DESJARLAIS

Post by NoreenB » Wed Sep 24, 2008 2:13 pm

I am doing some research on fathers side of the family but have run into some brick walls. I am having difficulty finding correct names for Suzanne's and Amable Desjarlais' siblings especially Elaine Helene (a) Desjarlais as this is my dad's grandmother. i have ran into 2 ladies same name born same year to 2 different men ( of the same family ). Curious as to where Suzanne was born and when, i know that amable was born 1/16 1860. Even on this site lineage ends with Suzanne. I am just looking for some answers anything even if it has not been asked in the message. lost and confused.

Amable DESJARLAIS 1860

Post by gnstill » Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:52 pm

Welcome to the Forum Noreen!

I have an Amable DESJARLAIS born Jan 16, 1860; married Sep 23, 1879 at St Eustache, MB to Suzanne b-1855, daughter of Marie FIDLER & Charles PELLETIER JR b-c1822 (There were about 12 children in this PELLETIER family)
Amable & Suzanne had about 9 children (from MB Vital Stats and Scrips), including a Helene who was born in July of 1880 at Fort Ellice. I am reviewing my information and will have more for you later.

Who did Helene (your Dad's grandmother) marry?

Census 1901 at Ferndale, SK (Assiniboia East) lists a Susan (age 42) & Amable DESJARLAIS (age 40), both born in MB, with children (Ellen, Louis, Joseph and Laura). I wonder if this is the same Amable?

In order to determine more about Elaine Helene DESJARLAIS and her family, we need a lot more information.

So far I have a Helene DESJARLAIS who has been variously recorded as Helene, Ellen and Elaine. She was born either in July of 1880 or on Dec 25, 1881, most likely in the area of St Francois Xavier, Manitoba. She was the daughter of Suzanne PELLETIER & Amable DESJARLAIS b-1860. She had numerous siblings, most of which seem to have died in infancy.

You indicate that Elaine Helene DESJARLAIS was born in Saanichton. The only Saanichton I know of is in British Columbia, so that information seems to conflict with what I have.
You say she married Jean Baptiste DESJARLAIS, suggesting she may have married a cousin or a relative with the same last name. Can you offer more information? Birth dates and locations would help, also who were your grandparents? Without more clues it is almost impossible to follow up on this.

I forgot to mention Elaine Helene DESJARLAIS' sister, Marie DESJARLAIS, born about 1878 in St Eustache, Manitoba. Marie married at Fort Ellis in 1895 to Urbain DELORME who lived for a time in the Qu'Appelle River area of Saskatchewan. Urbain b-1875 was a son of Charlotte GERVAIS & Norbert DELORME.I do have more info about these families.
Do any of those names ring any bells?
Even if you could provide names and birth dates of known aunts, uncles, cousins, etc, it would provide something to go on.

I do have Elaine Helene sister being Marie , b 07 1880, but I have her married to Fred Belhumeur, I could be wrong about this. I am still researching this. If you need more, contact me again and can give you more info on what I have. Maybe we can fill in the gaps together.

Thanks for that extra info Kohkum

We seem to be in agreement now regarding everything from your grandmother Laura Clara DESJARLAIS b-1908; her mother Elaine Helene DESJARLAIS b-1881; her father, Amable DESJARLAIS b-1860. I also have a long line of DESJARLAIS ancestors in my files prior to Amable.

The only problem I have is with Helene marrying Jean Baptiste DESJARLAIS who you say was her cousin. I cannot find anyone in my files to match that union. Do you have more information on his origins? Where did you get that information?

I also have info that seems to comply with your LIZOTTE ancestors. Am I correct in saying your grandfather, Joseph Xavier LIZOTTE b-1896, was the son of Eliza/Elise PRIMEAU & Joseph LIZOTTE b-1859?

Okay, here we go .... Elaine Helena Desjarlais b 1881; her father, Amable Desjarlais b 1860; his father Jean Baptiste Desjarlas 1832 ; his father Francois (Minie) Desjarlais is the same person as

Elaine Helena husband - Jean Baptiste Desjarlais b 1875, his father Alexandre Minie Desjarlais b 1845; his father Francoise Minie Desjarlais m Marie Machitokokwe (Maskegonne) . So Jean Baptiste Desjarlais b 1832 and Alexandre Minie Desjarlais b 1845 were brothers.

My source for this info comes from La Societe historique de Saint-Boniface MB

As for my grandfather I am looking for more info with this line. I know he was b 1896 (not sure if the US or not. He served in both WW1 and WW2. I am trying to get his military records.

I know he had siblings which I believe were: Jean Lizotte m Julie Mercredi, Jeannie Lizotte m Joe Liberty (in San Clara, MB) , Mary Lizotte m --- McRae, Elvina Engela Lizotte m Togo Enge c: 1) Viola m ---- 2) Adele m. ---- Gow 3)Mabel m. ---- Stewart 4) Bill 5) Claudette m. ---- Gow 6) Anne m. C ----- Chambers -Authur Lizotte; Frank Lizotte which had a son by the name of Joe, Xavier Henery Lizotte with children: (Evelyn, Wilfred, Edwin, Lorette) ; Fred Lizotte,; Marcel Lizotte; Virginia Lizotte m ---- Laliberte; and Alexander Lizotte with children (Donald Joseph, Ronald Alexander, Brenda Ann, Marion Joyce, and Mary Jane) This info was gotten off a copy of the Last Will and Testiment of Alfred Lizotte. (I'm trying to get the funeral records ) These were listed as surviving heirs. Not much for me to go on yet.

I have Amable DESJARLAIS born 1860, son of Josephte FLEURY & Jean Baptiste DESJARLAIS (born around 1830), son of Marie BOTTINEAU & Francois Xavier DESJARLAIS (born around 1795). However, I don’t seem to have Alexander Minie DESJARLAIS as Amable’s brother. Instead, I have a brother named Alexander born 1851 who married Caroline SAYER. Can you tell me more about Alexander Minie DESJARLAIS; who did he marry? I cannot find him anywhere.

To avoid confusion I have started a new topic LIZOTTE, to discuss that family separately.

My connections are somewhat indirect, through the FIDLER and SAYER families who both have links to the DESJARLAIS ancestry by way of side branches.

I am working on the LIZOTTE families right now, will post more when I get my facts straight.

Please do me a favour. When discussing LIZOTTE info, do it under the Topic LIZOTTE.
Only post under this topic when discussing DESJARLAIS ancestry.

It helps to avoid confusion for everyone.
