Sharon Eyford posted: I am brand new to this website, but when I saw the topic being Peter Fidler, I became very interested in what you are about. Peter Fidler was my Gr.Gr.Gr. Grandfather.
My Gr.Gr.Grandfather was Peter Fidler Junior b.July 2,1822 in Dauphin, Manitioba. He died Feb 1,1881 in St.Pauls Middlechurch, just north of what is now Winnipeg, Manitoba.
My Gr.Gr.Grandmother Amelia Bird b.Jan.4,1821 at Edmonton House in what is now Alberta. My Gr.Grandmother, Emily Amelia Fidler, was b. Jan. 25 1845 in Red River Settlement. She did in Feb. 11, 1881 in St.Pauls Middlechurch, Manitoba. She married in March 1872 and lived in Springfield, Manitoba. They had 7 children: 1 boy, 4 daughters, and 2 still born children. That left her husband 3 little girls to look after and work their farm in Springfield, after her and the last child a girl died.

I hope to to able to learn more of her life, if possible and connect with more of the children of PFJr or their descendants. Please connect with me if you can.
Sharon P.S. always looking for picture of this family or their descendants.

Hi again, here goes... My Gr.Grandmother Emily Amelia Fidler ...her grandmother was Amelia Bird, daughter to George Bird from James Curtis Bird, a well known Bird from
Winnipeg area. Bird's Hill Park was named after James C.Bird---so I am from the Bird side of the family also. Great ancestors as I have discovered.

Emily Amelia Fidler was m. to William Allen Mann, a white man b. 1844 in Ontario, Canada. He came to Manitoba, while a young man of 20, with Colonel Wolseley to help put down
the resistance in Fort Garry. He met Emily while stationed at Lower Fort Garry, m. but no certificate yet!!! Still looking for that. Went to St. Boniface after 5 yrs. of looking
for any information about her--there to our amazement we found "HER NAME" after never been heard of, in over 125 yrs at that time. We were very excited, to say the least!!
My husband and I were the first ancestors to find Emily's name and to get a piece of paper from St.Boniface Historical Society, telling of the wife of W.A.Mann. Emily Amelia Fidler and
her parents P.F.Junior and Ameila Bird and St. Paul's Anglican Church MiddleChurch, just north of Winnipeg. Still looking for Emily's burial place with 4 out of 7 children. After her death in 1881 just
after her father died in Jan. 1881 (heard it was diptheria), W.A.Mann left with 3 girls under the age of 6, m.again to Sophia Jane Erasmussen and moved to Sunneymede. Sask.
near what is now known as Whitewood, Sask. There he was the first man to be given the mail contract( just got the copy of the contract from Manitoba Gov't),
and his house was the depot for that area. W.A, and Sophia became the parents of 13 more children. Sophia is buried in Winnipeg and William in Whitewood Sask Cemetery.

My Grandmother (one of the 3 surviving children of first marriage) then grew up in Whitewood area. Her name was Caroline Catherine Mann and she met a young Englishman
from Broadview/Grenfell , in Sask.area and m. in Whitewood in 1902, they then moved to Brandon,Manitoba. They had 4children, my father being one of them. Still looking for pics. of family
and any connections to Emily Fidler and her family

I have lots of information about the ERASMUS/ ERASMUSSEN families too.

Regarding BIRD descendants, click on this link: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

Sophia Jane was the daughter of Henry ERASMUS/ ERASMUSSEN (b-1826) who was the son of Catherine “Kitty” BUDD and Peter ERASMUS (1794-1849) from Denmark. I will probably eventually post Family Page(s) relating to that family, but it’s not on my Priority List at this time.

Please note: I have posted a new updated Family Page for Peter on my Red River Ancestry site. Check it out and continue discussions there:

Gary,

Sophia Jane Eramussen lived in the Red River Settlement with her parents, at the same time as Emily Fidler and husband William Allen Mann.
When she was about 19 yrs. old, she married William A. Mann,August 22. 1881, after she had been his housekeeper to look after his 4 children (all girls). By that time Emily
Amelia Fidler had died giving birth to their last daughter also called Emily (she lived only a few months after her birth). Then William left with his new wife Sophia
Jane Mann,(Eramussen) and the 3 daughters, Margaret,Agnes and Caroline Catherine Mann. West they went to Sunnymede Sask. and built their home. William had gotten
a mail contract from Gov't of Manitoba, and used his home as the depot. William and Sophia went on to have 13 more children. Their first child was Minnie b. 1 June, 1882
died 8 May, 1883 buried in Whitewood , Sask. Sophia Jane d. at Winnipeg, Man. Sept 1943, buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Winnipeg. William d. 19 October, 1932 at the age of 88
and is buried in Whitewood Cemetery, Sask. William had been Postmaster in Sunnymede, Sask. for 25 yrs.

Sharon: I just don’t have time to do a proper review of all my information right now, but it appears that Henry ERASMUS’ first wife was Margaret ANDERSON, daughter of Mary Anne DESMARAIS and John ANDERSON (1804-1884). No children listed by this marriage. No information regarding Margaret, beyond the marriage. No children are recorded. Perhaps Margaret died?

It appears that Sophia Jane ERASMUS (b-1861) was probably a daughter of Jane STEAD, the second wife of Henry ERASMUS (b-1826) by whom he had about five kids. In addition to those, ERASMUS also had an illegitimate child (Charles Thomas ERASMUS) with Margaret ANDERSON’s sister, Elizabeth ANDERSON.

It will probably be quite a while before I have time to do more work on this ERASMUS family. It’s just not one of my priorities at this time. More about that at this link: SPECIAL FAMILY PAGES
