Origins of the McKENZIE or MacKENZIE Fur Trade Cousins
Some people believe Our Roddy was a cousin of the famous explorer Sir Alexander MacKENZIE , and/or also a cousin of the Honorable (Sir) Roderick McKENZIE (who many researchers erroneously confuse with OUR Roderick). I am still on a quest to find the real origins of our Roddy and of these so-called c...

Re: Roderick McKenzie
That's very interesting! Did you find a headstone nearby for Roderick, apparently buried in the same Little Britain United Church Cemetery?
I have several references to the Public Archives of Manitoba, St Andrews records, with a death date of Nov 17, 1859, at age 75 (for a birth date of 1784).

STILL ANCESTORS
I have been getting a lot of queries lately about my STILL ancestors. This is the place to post your queries, but please be careful when speaking of living family members. There are some who don't like their names made public. Usually no problem with Grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. For more a...

Re: Descendants of ALEXANDER McLEOD (1822-1894)
This is about the extent of what I have on Archibald Norman McLEOD (?-1837) McLEOD joined the NWCo sometime before 1796 and was made a partner before 1799. He was in the Athabaska country from 1802-1808, and in 1808 he joined the agency firm McTavish, McGillivrays & Co. He was a captain in the C...

Descendants of ALEXANDER McLEOD (1822-1894)
I got your file. Thanks very much! I remember you and your parents well. Most Mapleton School kids will remember going to McLEOD’s tobogganing and sliding hill in their younger days. It is interesting that you were born in North Battleford. I always thought you were born in Selkirk. Surprisingly, I ...

Re: Mapleton School (Students & Teachers)
Hello Ross!! It’s a great thrill to hear from you!! Peter FIDLER (1867-1955), who lived right next-door to you (Peter GOWEN’s maternal grandfather) was a son of Henry FIDLER (1831-1908). His grandfather was Thomas Jonathan FIDLER (1795-1875) who you can find on my Ancestors page. He was a great-gran...

Re: Roderick McKenzie
I have Roderick born around 1772 in Inver Assynt Parish, Scotland. Several other spellings are found: Lochniver & Assynt; Assynt; Inverassynt; Inverasayant. Some say Assynt in in Sutherlandshire, near Ullapool (in Lochbroom) Also note that the name is often spelled as MacKENZIE. Some say that Ro...

Re: My experiance with mistakes of names.
Hi Kelly
Your maternal grandfather, Ephram/Ephrem CHARTRAND was born Jul 28, 1900, probably in the Pine Creek Settlement north of Camperville, MB. On Dec 31, 1924, in Camperville, Ephrem married Alvina (Melvina) ST GODARD/ GODDARD.

Re: Mary O'CONNOR aka MEENISH & John THOMAS JR (1784-1816)
Interesting stuff Lynn
The only picture I have is of John's son, Charles THOMAS b-1814. I have added it to John THOMAS Jr's page. I don't seem to have recorded where I got this picture, so I cannot be certain that this is really him.

Re: Mary O'CONNOR aka MEENISH & John THOMAS JR (1784-1816)
Thanks for pointing out this error.
This is my goof-up. John THOMAS JR was replaced by his brother's (Charles') father-in-law
I will make the correction shortly.

Thanks very much for that info Darlene I’m sure you can see that there is a wealth of information out there that can be discovered and shared on the Forum. I have been in contact with another 'family member' who chooses to remain anonymous, but is generously providing me with additional information....

Great work Darlene!
Were there any more details? Like when and where Richard was born?
Is there some way I could navigate to that information myself?
Thanks very Much!
